Eighteen months ago I was mixing an album at Real World in Bath, and after knocking off for the day I went for a (I thought) quiet beer in the pub across the road from the Travel Lodge with which the record label had chosen to spoil me...... and down in the cellar bar in said pub there was clearly some music going down, so I went to investigate. I took a seat in the corner and starting emptying my head of the day's work, but was soon completely drawn in to what was playing... and what was playing was AloneMe, doing an acoustic gig. Bottom line was, I was a bit tired and couldn't have felt less like introducing myself and doing that sort of "I'm a producer you know..." spiel but I kept getting pulled in by the quality of the songwriting and the great vocals. At the end of the night I sidled up and bought a CD... and, yes, got pulled straight into that sort of "I'm a producer you know..." spiel. And anyway, a few months later the band got in touch with me and now here we are making their debut album together. We're just days away from finishing the mixes, and it's been a great big grin of an experience from start to finish. Aloneme have beautifully crafted songs, they have talent and integrity. In spite of this, I still think they're going to be successful. And lucky for us all that they don't have bars in Travel Lodges..."
